80% Abandonment, 73% Concern: India’s Fraud Protection Challenge

The 2026 India Consumer Trust, Fraud & Authentication ebook draws on new Outseer research with 1,002 consumers in India, part of a broader seven-market study of 7,029 consumers. The report examines how Indian consumers experience fraud, scams and authentication, and what those experiences mean for financial institutions competing on trust, protection and digital experience.

What do Indian consumers expect from fraud protection?

Indian survey respondents were highly concerned about account takeover, stolen-card fraud and scams, with 73% very or extremely concerned about both account takeover and fraud using stolen card details. At the same time, they expect security to be relevant to the risk, not a barrier to everyday digital payments.

The findings show where fraud prevention influences provider choice, how protection failures can damage confidence, and why poorly timed authentication can lead consumers to abandon online purchases.
